Obverse description Within a beaded border, the merchant's legend is arranged in three lines across the field: 'JAMES WALLACE' arching along the upper periphery, 'GROCER' prominently in the centre, '&C' beneath, and 'WELLINGTON' curving along the lower periphery. The lettering is incuse-style in a plain, bold typeface typical of mid-nineteenth century colonial trade tokens, with no additional design elements or portraiture.
