Obverse description Facing figure of the deity Venkateshvara (Balaji) depicted in high relief at center, rendered in the characteristic Vijayanagara style with a round, stylized face and prominent eyes shown frontally. The deity is flanked by attendant figures on either side, all executed in the boldly modeled, somewhat schematic hammered technique typical of Vijayanagara gold coinage. The field surrounding the central group is irregular and shows the characteristic uneven flan of a hand-struck issue. No inscriptions appear on this side.

Additional information

Achyutaraya ruled Vijayanagara from 1529 to 1542 following the death of his brother Krishnadevaraya, widely considered the empire's greatest ruler. His reign was plagued by factional court politics and the increasing influence of his brother-in-law Saluvya Timmarasa, who effectively controlled much of the administration. Gold pagodas continued to flow from Vijayanagara's mints throughout, sustained by the empire's dominance over the Deccan trade routes and the immense wealth passing through the port of Calicut.

The half pagoda denomination at this weight sits at the lighter end of the series, consistent with known Achyutaraya-period fractional issues catalogued under the MSI sequence.
