Obverse description Half-length armored figure of the Master of the Livonian Order, Heinrich von Galen, depicted facing forward and holding a sword in the right hand and a shield in the left, the figure dividing the date in the field. A circular Latin legend surrounds the central device, naming the issuer and his title. The style is typical of mid-16th century Germanic hammered coinage, with bold but somewhat crude die engraving characteristic of the period.
