Obverse description Crowned and armored bust of King Gustav Vasa (Gustav I) facing right, depicted in the so-called Type II portrait style, enclosed within a linear inner circle. The king holds a scepter in his right hand and an orb surmounted by a cross in his left, both attributes of royal sovereignty. The bust is rendered in the late medieval hammered style, with detailed depiction of plate armor and a jeweled crown. The surrounding Latin legend reads GOSTAVS : D:G : REX : SWECIE, identifying the king by name and divine right title, separated by a cross at the base of the legend.
