1/2 Groat - Joanna and Wenceslas

Joanna and Wenceslas ruled Brabant jointly from 1355 following Joanna's inheritance of the duchy, with Wenceslas — her husband and Duke of Luxembourg — holding co-ducal authority until his death at the Battle of Baesweiler in 1371. That battle, fought against the combined forces of Guelders and Jülich, ended disastrously for Brabant and left Joanna to govern alone for another three decades. Coins issued in their joint names bracket a politically turbulent window in Brabantine history.
