The design is finely detailed with foliate scrollwork at the base of the lily. The surrounding peripheral Latin legend reads ARAGO REX AL, identifying Alfonso V as King of Aragon. Small decorative stops or pellets punctuate the legend. The hammered flan exhibits the characteristic irregularity of medieval gold coinage struck at the Valencia mint. |
