| Obverse description | Facing enthroned figure of King Enrique IV of Castile, seated frontally upon a high-backed throne, crowned and robed in royal regalia, holding a sceptre in his right hand. The effigy is rendered in the Gothic style characteristic of mid-15th century Castilian gold coinage. A circular Latin legend surrounds the central device, interrupted by decorative stops. The hammered flan exhibits the characteristic irregular outline of medieval hand-struck gold coinage. |
