| Reverse description | The reverse displays a full-color reproduction of Raphael's celebrated painting 'The Transfiguration' (c. 1520), applied to the rectangular field of the coin. The upper portion depicts the transfigured Christ ascending in luminous white robes, flanked by the prophets Moses and Elijah, while the apostles Peter, James, and John are shown prostrate below. The lower half of the composition portrays a crowd of disciples and bystanders gesturing toward a possessed youth, linking the two narrative scenes of the original masterpiece. The coloring is vivid and faithful to the original oil painting, rendered in high detail across the entire reverse surface. No inscriptions or legends appear on the reverse. |
