Reverse description The three-masted carrack Santa Maria sails to the left in the central field, depicted in full sail above two hemispheric planispheres that together represent the Old and New Worlds. The date 1492 is divided across the two globes, one numeral group on each side. The circumferential legend WORLD'S COLUMBIAN EXPOSITION CHICAGO arcs around the upper and side rim, while the commemorative date 1893 appears in the lower field, enclosed by stars. Fine denticles border the design throughout.
