Issued to mark Charles III's formal appearances during the 2023 Coronation, this piece belongs to a wave of Pacific-nation commemoratives that flooded the market in the months following the Westminster Abbey ceremony. The Solomon Islands, a Commonwealth realm with Charles as head of state, has become a prolific issuer of low-cost gold-plated iron commemoratives through third-party licensing arrangements — pieces manufactured almost entirely for the collector novelty market rather than any circulating monetary purpose.
Iron substrate coinage of this type corrodes readily if the plating is breached.
