Enrique IV's billon coinage has a turbulent monetary history behind it. His reign saw one of the worst currency crises in Castilian history — private mints operated virtually without oversight, flooding circulation with debased issues of wildly inconsistent fineness. The Cortes repeatedly petitioned the crown to suppress unauthorized minting, with limited effect. Seville's output during this period is among the more consistent, but "consistent" is relative given the era's endemic debasement.
AB#780 is a well-documented type, though attribution can be complicated by the sheer variety of dies used across authorized and semi-authorized production.
