Obverse description The royal cypher of King Oscar I occupies the central field, the interlaced monogram dividing the two-word motto. Surrounding the monogram are the Three Crowns of Sweden, the traditional heraldic emblems of the Swedish realm, arranged as decorative elements within the design. The legend encircling the field reads RÄTT OCH SANNING, meaning Right and Truth, which was Oscar I's personal motto. The overall composition is rendered in a restrained neoclassical style typical of mid-19th century Scandinavian coinage.
