Fonderie Saint Luc, based in Belgium, has been among the most prolific producers of these tourist items, supplying them to municipalities, heritage sites, and regional promoters across France and beyond. Les Sables d'Olonne, a coastal commune in the Vendée, has embraced the format aggressively — this 2023 issue is one of several the town has commissioned.
The watermark is a deliberate nod to genuine currency production, included more for perceived collectability than any anti-counterfeiting purpose. On a note with zero monetary value, the security theater is the point.
